Avoid this common fitness mistake that most beginners make

If you’re just starting your fitness journey, read this so you avoid this common mistake most people make when starting their fitness journey.

Most people start their fitness journey when they are highly motivated. It’s usually their New Year’s resolution. “Get back in shape.”

This is a great reason to get back into shape. And motivation is the push most people need. The problem lies in the fact that you won’t be motivated forever.

Motivation is fleeting. And it usually only lasts a short amount of time. Making decisions about how often you should exercise when you’re in a high state of motivation leads to overcommitting yourself.

If you didn’t workout at all last year, you shouldn’t commit to 5 days a week for this year. Motivation makes you think you can, reality shows you that you can’t.

A better approach is to think small and realistic. If you didn’t workout at all last year, one day a week is a small step in the right direction, yet it will give you big returns if you commit to it for the whole year.

In fact, if you just strength trained one day per week for the rest of your life, you would get amazing results. Even better with two days per week. Any more than two days and it starts to become unsustainable for most people.

If this is you, ready to “commit” to five days per week, seriously consider if that’s relatable feasible for you. The answer is probably not. Start with 1-2 days per week and get disciplined with that. You’ll likely find that you don’t need to add more than two days ever.
