Empower yourself by taking control of your life
Empowering yourself starts with realizing that you are in control of your life, your life isn't in control of you.
I used to think the challenging things that happened to me were because I was unlucky. But then I realized that many of these challenges were self-inflicted:
The stomach disease I was diagnosed with didn't just happen to me because I was unlucky, it was because I ate poorly and drank often. The debilitating migraines and headaches I got almost daily weren't because I was unlucky, it was because I was chronically dehydrated, eating foods I was intolerant to, living with terrible posture, and constantly on screens. The depression I dealt with through my late teens and early twenties wasn't because I was unlucky, it was because I was eating poorly, exercising inappropriately, constantly on screens, hanging out with bad friends, not dealing with childhood trauma, and drinking regularly. The anger and mood swings that brought my relationships to the brink of collapsing weren't because I was unlucky, it was because I was eating poorly, drinking often, not dealing with my childhood trauma, exercising inappropriately, and hanging out with bad friends.
You'll notice there's lots of overlap. Our actions have consequences. And at the end of the day I was responsible for them. Don't get me wrong, there are many things out of our control, but there are also many that are in our control. Don't outsource all of that control to someone else and roll over when they say there's nothing that can be done. There's always something that can be done.
If this seems controversial to you, you may need to analyze yourself and question why a post about empowering yourself by taking control of your actions makes you feel that way. You just might find the answer to what's holding you back.
Things don't happen to you, they happen for you.
